Looking for a freelance web developer : Time for such opportunities ?

Freelance business is scaling rapidly in India. With jobs like front-end development, Startups, SME’s & Corporates are now increasingly opening opportunities for freelance IT professionals. The market of-late has witnessed a growing demand for profiles like apple ios developer, Android developer, graphic designer, content writer etc. which indicates its bright future. ‘Looking for a freelance web developer in Delhi, Bangalore, Chennai,’ is easily the most common inquiry these days, making the phenomenon ‘freelance’ more and more local than global. This only testifies to its immense potential.

Unemployment is at a rise and the complexity of connecting talent with opportunities is a major concern that needs to be addressed ASAP. Like the world has always discovered ways to address different problems, it shall find a solution to this one too.

Working in an organization is a limited opportunity for one to explore as  individuals are confined to performing tasks within the domain they are hired in. This makes work more monotonous and redundant. But times are soon changing. With a significant shift taking place in work preferences, the status quo is being altered very rapidly. We are soon moving towards a future where the 9-5 work culture will be a passé and work from home opportunities will become the new norm. Such a trend will leverage flexible working hours rather than conform one to restricted timings. And as far as full time employees go, they will eventually become contractual service providers who will allow individuals to grab more opportunities and define their own ways.

This new style of doing business is vibrant, but it also brings along new challenges and obstacles, which will require one to do a lot more to sustain, stabilize & succeed.

Skilled individuals are best at what they do and they appreciate any opportunity that walks to them. They like getting dependent on various platforms where they can find work without any hassle. But the quality of jobs being created through these online on-demand service platforms is increasingly being scrutinized. The competition on these platforms is rising & the pricing is getting more and more transparent. Just as e-commerce websites like amazon & flipkart which tend to bring down the price of the products they sell online, freelance platforms are trying to influence prices linked with the services. Many of the jobs created by contingent work platforms do not add up to a living wage.

On-demand service platforms have gained a lot of attention from venture capitalists in the recent past and will remain an area of interest for many years to come owing to the staggering growth it has witnessed. Platforms in this area are still exploring ways to maximize opportunities and will continue to invest in technologies that will bring better possibilities to ease of doing business.

Enter Keywords : “ Freelance Jobs for web designers “ : Is web the right place to look for work ?

Opportunities, services, solutions, content & even keywords for that matter are growing rapidly at a pace that’s unimaginable. We are constantly building and solving problems leading to more problems and more solutions. We now rely heavily on search engines and we simply key in “ Freelance Jobs for web designers ” in search for projects or platforms that help finding them. You would agree to this belief that we use keywords search for work as a last resort as we fail to find anything relevant around the web.

Is there an end to this ever growing hard to crack internet space ?

You already have an answer to that.

For something as simple as finding a project, there are ample platforms currently out there on the web trying to or willing to connect the demand with supply. They have all gone to crazy levels and make most from the opportunity the web offers to them. In reality, these are not real solutions.

Remember what Steve Jobs – Co Founder of Apple famously said ?

SAN FRANCISCO - JANUARY 27: Apple Inc. CEO Steve Jobs announces the new iPad as he speaks during an Apple Special Event at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts January 27, 2010 in San Francisco, California. “A lot of times, people don’t know what they want until you show it to them.”

We are just victims of these popular platforms that offer “difficult to use” solutions by calling them easy, therefore Leaving us with not more than a few more keywords in search for work that says, projects for “ freelance graphic designers “ & projects for “ freelance designers “ bla bla bla

Real solutions are the need of the hour. Web definitely brings convenience, but not necessarily bring the right solutions for many problems.

What do the current web solutions offer ?

For Freelancers

They offer free signups, merely as a show of strength with millions of freelancers to encourage people to post their projects on their platforms and get their work done. Truth is, their algorithms are biased and discouraging for most freelancers as they boost only the tried and tested ones to keep their statistics high. The number of projects posted are limited & is not serious business for most of these skilled individuals who stand dependent on these services.

We interviewed a few freelancers and this is what some of them had to say.

Sanjana Jain, a freelance writer from Mumbai : I find freelance work through networking, referrals and offline events. I rely heavily on networking to find a new client base. I try to get my business name out there as quickly as I can locally.

When asked about the current online platforms for freelance work :

I do sign up on popular platforms but if I have to rely on them, I’d be making a mistake. I ve hardly managed to bag projects from these platforms and I would not recommend anyone to consider it the only means to find work. If you are looking for serious work, its all out there & no online solution is yet that dependable. As of now, life is simpler without them until we can find something more compelling and reliable that can help shed the load of finding more freelance work often.

For seekers

The experience is lousy for most as only few who are tech friendly like to post work on these platforms. Statistics say it all : The total number of projects these platforms have posted since the day of their inception are far behind the number of freelancers they have signed up, speaking volumes for themselves.

We need solutions that are easily adaptable & by just making web only platforms doesn’t really mean they are the right solutions.

At procallo, we understand the nature of freelancers & seekers, thus encouraging us to come up with solutions that make search & hiring of a freelancer more simple. where you will find real opportunities & will not be left with keywords as the last resort to look for work.
